DEEP ROOTED

DEEP ROOTED

The problems we hold onto
So way deep, deep inside
They pull us down and down
Side to side
We don’t let them go
We hang onto them like a treasured gem
Afraid of what might happen
With the deep, deep rooted core
What’s more?
They won’t let go of us
We lug them around
We try to toss them aside
But once more we glide
Down on a helter skelter ride
To the slippery sliding deep rooted
Chasm and abyss
Where fighting is amiss
You struggle each day
You struggle each night
The day turns to night
The night turns to day
The deep root is still there
Whichever way you turn
You yearn you want
You need
You cannot get
But yet
It is obvious
You just cut it loose
This noose
This Ruse
This subterfuge
It’s all in the mind
But feels so real
Real as real
Can be
They straggle
They haggle
They make deals with your soul
Your feelings
Your passion
Your compassion
You scream
You holler
CRYING OUT LOUD!
Let me go
Only you can let go
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD

SNOW, SNOW, LET IT FLOW

SNOW, SNOW, LET IT FLOW
OH NO!
Snow, snow you flow so much oh no!
The wind howling, whistling around every nook and cranny
Everything is so cold to the touch
The window pane freezing cold
The trees bending, bowing, trying to stand upright precariously
The wind from the East strong and powerful like a beast
Hungry for power, sovereignty
The tiny flakes of snow swirling, curling
Just like a maelstrom
Scrambling frenzied vortex
Sucking all the remains of winters fallen debris around and around
Oh so cold and frenzied outside
But here I stand and watch the frenzy
Snuggled up and warm inside
Warm enough to be in the minimalistic
Mother Nature intention
Coffee in hand, warming soothing the ravages of the exterior
Oh snow, snow!
Baron and bare
That much you dare!
But we do not despair
Spring is on its way hooray!
The flowers start to shoot and bloom
Comforting, warming the room
Just like a rose budding, and in full bloom
Oh snow, snow you won’t be here for long

I'VE WALKED THIS LONG MILE

I’VE WALKED THIS LONG MILE
So many, many times
Where nothing seemed to have rhymed
The planes and trains
The familiar strains
The glances
The stares
Where no one really cares
The black and white
When we feel all is right
The hidden eyes
Oh what a disguise!
Or is it a surprise?
The illusionary illusion
Deluded by delusion
The cable cars
Rattle and rattle
Shaking our very being
Cursory, desultory
This urban life
So cosmopolitan
Where there is so much strife
We live, we breathe
But we carry on with our lives
Not knowing
Never knowing
Our neighbor’s lives
How they survive
Do they survive?
The cursory hello or goodbye
A high five
The vehicles rushing by
Focused, focusing
Not looking side by side
Eyes peeled
Hands on the wheel
Sullen looking morose
The cobbled streets
So uneven under our feet
Where we could gather and meet
But no one seems to bother
It’s a world so impersonal
Where is the interpersonal?
Gone? With the way with life

REFLECTION

REFLECTION
In the real world we show
What we want others to see
Not the real us
The real you and I
Fake at times
Living a lie
Just to get by
In a world full of hate
Mistrust
Suspicions
Doubts
Distrust
Giving only what we want others to see
And hear
Keeping it covered
Hidden
Concealed
Secreted
Secretive
Unknown
An air of mysteriousness
Is maybe the key
Enigmatic
Cagey
Just like a bird
Wary to fly
High
Is this the world before us?
Living in cages
Being too cautious
Evasive of who we really are
Beautiful
From the outside in
A mirrored image
A reflection
Of the beauty of the hawk
Powerful
Free
And wild
Unattached
Detached
From all the is unreal

THE MAGIC OF THE DAY

THE MAGIC OF THE DAY
The morning sun
Gleaming, shimmering on this new day
Shining its light so bright
The rivers, streams and oceans
Echoing their delight
The clouds floating by in their unfamiliar way
Fluffy and soft
Way up there in the loft
The flowers and leaves
Lifting their heads up and up
To the sun’s rays
Catching the glittery rays
Happy as can be
The river rippling, flowing with the
MAGIC OF THE DAY
