OVER THIS LAND

OVER THIS LAND
The wild and ancient land
Roaming free
Across the craggy rocks
And mountains high
Scanning
The landscape near and far
A land so quiet
Nothing making a noise
Except for the
Hawks
Eagles
Buzzards
Hovering on the wind
Silently
That their prey won’t hear them
Stalking
Shadowing
Lurking
Just above the sky line
Disguised
Veiled
Cloaked
Concealed
Never to reveal until the time is perfect
Then they strike at the prey
Nothing gets in their way
The lonesome wolf
Standing strong and proud
This is his land
Where his brothers and sisters
Roamed free
Hounded
Haunted
Frightened to the core
Is it any wonder that they moved to the mountains?
For safety
And security
Free from cruelty
The torture
The pain
The aimless slaughter
Of this wondrous beast
Maybe, just maybe
With time and help
They will roam free
As they did once

ON THE EDGE

ON THE EDGE
You stand on the edge of a
Dark, dark chasm
A gulf so wide
And the gorge so deep
Deeper than the eye can see
An eerie silence
Hollow
Void of any sound
You sniff the air
With care
Teetering on the edge of a craggy ledge
With one paw carefully balanced
Watching
Wondering
What is out there?
The air thick and dense
Grey, dreary
Lifeless and cold
The stench
The smell
Reeking of rotting life
Rising up from the deep
Abyss
Nothing
Nothing
Nowhere to cross over
He senses the dangers
He knows he cannot cross
But he stands and waits
And wonders where all his
Brothers and sisters have gone
He knows what fate has met them
But still he knows and wants to be with them all
