SUMMER DAYS

SUMMERY DAYS
Playing in the fields of maze
The brightest of yellows
Like the sun kissed meadows
All in bloom where there is no more room
For flowers to grow
The field of daffodils still in bloom
The irises in their purple hues
Daisies made into chains
Children frolicking, leaping, everywhere
Lambs a gamboling with a spring in their legs
Jumping, bounding oh so happily
The sun kissed faces leaning to the sun
Whilst everyone is having fun
The sun is now at its highest, brightest
The heat all aglow with a hazy haze
Shimmering, glimmering across the land
The butterflies flitting from flower to flower
Oh such wondrous colours too
There blues, reds, oranges drinking the nectar
To bloom and grow
Oh such wondrous sights and sounds
On a beautiful summers day

THE LION AND HIS QUEEN (award winning Children's poem 2015)

THE LION AND HIS QUEEN
Where did it all begin?
Right from the start this lion king
Saw his queen, there was a beauty
As was his thinking
She was cute, adorable
And surrounded in pink
There she was looking his way
From a safe distance
She knew he was king
Her everything
His mane so glorious
Glorious shades of gold
Light and bright just like a butterfly
Flitting around in the sky
Holding his head so high
True to his name, with fame
His notorious battles he has won
Defending his domain
But within resides the softest, gentlest lion of them all
He is a great father, but his queen is the teacher to them all
He knows he will have great pride
With her by his side

THE LONG ROAD AHEAD

THE LONG ROAD AHEAD
That leads to my homestead
Rich and pure
That is for sure
It’s a lonely road
Just wish that you had been here
But you’d rather be back there
Instead of here
I cannot go back
I cannot back track
That road so troubled, worried
That carried such falsities
Fallacies
Jealousies
You’d rather I’d stayed
Stayed in a cocoon
With no room
You’d rather I’d be by your side
Where there was no room
Room to breath
Breath of breath
It would have been my death!
You loathed the successes
You loathed the adulations
You loathed the admirations
But you loved my weaknesses
Yet these were and are my strengths
Strengths to walk away
Walk right, right away!
To my homestead faraway
The long road ahead
It’s where I’m a heading
It’s loveless
Yet covet less
The clouds maybe grey
But I am going anyway
To a future that has been destined
My destiny

ESCAPISM (award winning poem of 2014)

ESCAPISM
Just that feeling from getting away from it all
Legs outstretched, leaning backwards
Oh the bliss and how I have missed this
Taking it all in
Savouring every moment, second, minute
The bouquet of flowers crushed, crumpled
Just like the moment you flattened my world
Tattered, shattered and curled
The darkest of days, the haze, the maze
Struggling to see the daylight
Walking in your shadows
The dark, dark shade just like the night
But that is all gone, long gone
The light is bright
Oh so good to be in the light
Do what I feel, see what is right
No more fear or fright

YOUR OWN VOICE (award winning poem of 2014)

YOUR OWN VOICE
The voice of your own choice
The quietness
The peacefulness
That brings you back to the stillness
Motionless
That time becomes ageless
Changeless
The ever unending
Never-ending
Unbending
Silence
That quietens
The hustle
And the bustle
That swirls and twirls
Around and around
Listen to your own voice
The one of your choice

THE SUN IN THE SKY

THE SUN IN THE SKY
Way up there so high
The night so clear
So vividly clear!
The stars in the night sky
Twinkling, sparkling
Just like fairy dust floating by
The moon and the planets showy
And oh how they catch the eye
Their magnificent, resplendent
Colours glittering by
There before your eyes
Jupiter, Mars floating merrily by
The late, late sun shining on this Earth
The early, early Moon of the evening
There before your eyes
The land below all aglow
The river running bright and clear
The grasses heavily laden with dew
The mountain tops and peaks glistening
Their whiteness with the snow
Oh to be sitting here forever more
But the morning soon arrives
The skies will be blue once more
Stretching outwards and upwards
For ever more

SUNRISE SUNSET

SUNRISE SUNSET
When it is at its best
The going down of the sun
Shining in all its glorious colours
Leaving us with a bye, bye
Oh such a wondrous day when it begun
Hearts and minds all agog
Ready, waiting never berating
Making you feel like dancing, prancing
With such glee and gaiety

WITH THE ROLLING OF THE WAVES

WITH THE ROLLING OF THE WAVES
The rolling of the waves
Signifying changes
Changes that can be changed
The way we live
Breath
Stretched to the limits
Suffocation
Crushed
Heavy weight
Laying upon us
Changes crashing all around us
Some for the best
Some for the worst
But changes happen
Whether we want them to or not
Major changes
Life that went strolling along
Now rushing
Gushing
Moving so fast
That we cannot keep up with it all
Tossing and turning
Churning
Way deep inside
Upside down
Curling
Swirling
Rip tide
Pulling us under
With no strength to carry on
Drowning
Under the weight
Of the changing tides

WE DANCED IN THE SHADOWS (New Poem)

WE DANCED IN THE SHADOWS
The shadows of the darkest of nights
We wept, we cried
But we have not died
It is our affair
No one else’s
We call it our date night
Away from the maddening crowds
Away from the staring eyes
Whose eyes pry
Pry into our lives
We stay separate
We want to be left alone
Alone to dance the night away
Evocative, seductive
We want to stay in this smoky room
With just a glimmer of a light
We can keep each other in sight
This is no place for beginners
This is no place where there are endings
A place where there is a license to love
Endless, endless love
Across the room they look at us
But we have only eyes for each other
Dancing evocatively
They can walk on by
But we remain glued to the spot
Eye to eye
Tenderly, evocatively
We hold each other
Never wanting, never needing to let go
Never wanting or needing this date to end
Lovers and friends is what we are
But yet we do not see this in the room
They sit and stand afar from each other
Scowling, frowning at us
Jealousy?
We just don’t care
We have just one more hour
An hour!
An hour
We are going to make the best of it
Here and now!
And then away from these crowds
This crowded, crowded room
To be alone at home
Till then we’ll just have eyes for each other
And no other
